Prana Definition

Yoga Glossary No Comments

Prana has been defined as life force energy.  Some alternative terms from other belief systems may be chi, or qi.  It is the energy that flows through our being.  As one works with their chakra energy systems the ability to sense the prana flowing through becomes more profound.

Feeling the force (prana) flow can be a form of meditation.

Chakra Definition

Chakras, Yoga Glossary 2 Comments

A chakra is defined as a wheel, or vortex of energy.  There are seven primary chakras that flow through a human’s energetic system.  The chakras have been called “windows to the soul” this is because they provide humans with subtle connections into soul consciousness.  It is through the seven energy centers that vitality pulses throughout our system energizing many of our physical, emotional and mental states.

By removing blockages within our chakras we are able to remove blockages within our lives.  We can discover our true self, and purpose in life.  And in that discovery live to our fullest expression and potential.

Sahasrara- 7th Chakra (Crown- Thousand Petal Lotus)

7th Chakra- Divine, Chakras 27 Comments

Seventh Chakra- Sahasrara- Crown

The 7th chakra is our connection to the divine. It has been called the thousand petal lotus by many. The seventh center is located at the top of ones head, where the soft spot is located on a baby. It is from this center that we are connected to our souls, and all souls, through the rainbow bridge.

The color of the seventh chakra is light purple, or violet. It is also closely associated with white, or divine, light from above.

Yoga, is a study of Union. It can be said that Kundalini Yoga focuses on the union and balance of the 1st chakra flowing up through the etheric system and merging in the crown chakra.

When the seventh chakra is blocked it impeeds the flow of divine light to flow through our being. It becomes challenging for us to aknowledge the divine within all forms, (Sat Nam, Namaste.) Our relationship with G.O.D is not centered. For those of you who science of prime importance, Generating Energy, Organizing Energy and Destroying/Delivering Energy.

Those with an overactive crown chakra that is not balanced across the heart center may be prone to being not of the world from time to time. Flighty, or aloof come to mind. One that is properly centered is able to operate in the world, but not be of the world.

Benefits of a balanced 7th Chakra

  • Connection with ones soul
  • Ability to realize soul purpose
  • Meditative prowless
  • Aknowledgement of the divine within all form
  • Close relationship with G.O.D.
  • Knowing and walking ones path

The crown chakra represents a location of great spiritual potential. But this is not the only focus of Yoga. All things must come to balance. While participating on the earth school the energies of the 7th center and the connection with the soul must merge with the rest of our being. And from this union peace may be known.

Yoga Certification Classes- Teacher Training

Lisa Lawrence 2 Comments

Work Towards Yoga Instructor Certification

Lisa Lawrence, Guru Anand Kaur, welcomes you to enroll in a Kundalini Yoga teacher training program in Madison, WI.

This 12 to 16 week program usually requires a commitment on the part of the student to attend yoga classes at least twice a week – - from Lisa or any other local Kundalini Yoga instructor. During that time, the student will have the opportunity to teach 3 different classes. S/he will be critiqued and guided until completion of coursework, at which time certification will be conferred. The fee ranges from $500-$750, depending on the entry level qualifications of the student.

This is the Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training program that Courtney Oftedahl completed and Hershel has nearly completed, (that’s me.)  I highly recommend this program to anyone interested in learning how to become a Kundalini Yoga Instructor.

The world is in need of more teachers.  I highly recommend working with Lisa!  Her experience and guidance through the classes prove most invaluable for students.

You may contact Lisa, or by leave a comment for her :-)

Kundalini Definition

Yoga Glossary 15 Comments

Define: Kundalini

Kundalini is defined as a lock of hair, of the beloved.  It is said that the Kundalini lies dormant at the base of the spine (1st chakra.)  This represents the feminine aspect of the divine, or shakti.

Through spiritual practice and Kundalini Yoga the dormant Kundalini energy is invited to flow up from the base of the spine, along the chakras, up to the crown chakra, where the feminine aspect is united with Shiva, the masculine aspect of the divine.  Thus polarity is achieved and balance across the centers is attained.

Kundalini energy is strongly associated with fire and heat.  Given that it travels along an energetic path, some would also liken it to electricity.

Reiki Experiments: Testing the Validity of Energy Healing

Energy Healing 15 Comments

I came across an interesting post on the topic of Reiki, so I figured I would comment on it. I do believe that it is important to establish experiments to test the validity of healing practices. And while I do believe there is something to being open to the healing sessions, there is still needs to be some tangible concrete evidence to give validity to the practice. Scientific analysis is not beyond the scope of spirituality, in fact the science of spirit is a necessity for its existence.

First of all I agree with the assertion made.

“It seems reasonable that if this “spiritually-guided life force energy” exists, there should be some way to detect it.”

However I believe your test scenarios for Reiki are not completely in line.

The detection of a living creature within a closed box, would be cool, but this is more along the lines of sensing the aura of the animal in the box and less so in the lines of channeling spiritual life force energy into the boxes/animals.

The second proposed experiment is also not appropriate. While Reiki practicioners can sense the spiritual energy as it is flowing through them during a session, it does not serve as a spiritual life energy temperture reader.

The most tangible, measurable component of a reiki healing session is the heat generated via the transference of energy.

Proposed Experiment

This would need some further definition but this is a good start.

Administrators- 2 Reiki Practicioner 2 Non Reiki Practicioner

Sampling of 30 or 60 people selected for “psychological experiment”

Equipment- Body Heat Measurement Tools – perhaps brain wave scanner as well for extra data- I would suspect that specific brain wave patterns would be encouraged during a reiki session.

  • Pre-experiment- provide psychological background information along with a glass of color liquid to have the people thing the study is tracking the results of something else
  • Hook up heat monitoring equipment on several location on their bodies, either side of the shoulders, stomach, thighs and shin
  • Have them lay down on a test bed with a blanket covering them
  • Place them into the brain imaging equipment
  • Half the group gets two reiki practicioners to place their hands in a series of predetermined locations down the sides of the subjects body, in conjunction with the heat readers
  • The final location would be around either side of the head
  • The other half have non-reiki practicioners do the same thing

The group that recieves the Reiki treatment will on average have their body heat raised significantly higher in the locations that they practicioners hands are placed.

I also suspect a common brain wave patter would express itself with those who were treated by the reiki practicioners.

I think I would need some help to pull off the brain imaging component of this experiment. Perhaps Richard Davidson, cited here for his brain wave research into the benefits of meditation, can help support this experiment?? I’ll split the prize with his Waisman Laboratory for Brain Wave Imaging and Behavior.

Let me know if ya think this approach holds weight?

Reiki Energy Healing for Chakras

Chakras, Energy Healing, Krishan Singh No Comments

I have finally gotten around to putting some useful information about Reiki here.

I thought it appropriate to give thanks to my Reiki instructor, and Light Body Instructor as well, Esther Turner.

Reiki is a means of providing energy healing to individuals. It provides an excellent channel for working with peoples chakras in a non-invasive way. Reiki is the channel, in this lifetime, where I came to know that I needed to understand the chakra energy centers a bit more in order to feel fulfilled in life. A friend of mine used Reiki to entice the Kundalini to fly up from the base of my spine and out through my 5th chakra to clear up a blockage.
As you may read in the Reiki Healing overview, Reiki provides a practicioner the ability to channel life force energy through their hands and into another individual. The way one is actually able to perform Reiki healing is via attunement sessions/classes.

All Reiki practicioners come from Dr. Mikao Usui- (okay okay they come from God) I thought I would provide my Reiki Lineage as a tribute to the teachers that have come before me and for the benefit of all those that may come after.

  • Dr. Mikao Usui
  • Dr. Chujiro Hayashi
  • Hawayo Takata
  • Iris Ishikuro
  • Arthur Robertson
  • Rick & Emma Ferguson
  • Margarette L. Shelton
  • Kathleen Ann Milner
  • Arline E. Rowden
  • Esther A. Turner
  • Hershel (that’s me)

Benefits of Reiki Healing

  • Improved flow of energy throughout the body, chakras included!
  • Increased energy level
  • Pain decrease
  • Works wonders on head aches and leg cramps
  • No drugs required
  • Non-invasive, we are talking about healing energetic vibrations here
  • Get excited about magic in the world

If you are looking for a session in Wisconsin, Madison in particular, I’ve noted some resources for reiki here.

Ajna- 6th Chakra (Third Eye: Intuition)

6th Chakra- Intuition, Chakras 5 Comments

Sixth Chakra- Ajna (Center of Intution or Third Eye)

The ajna center is located directly in ones brow, between the eyebrows on the forehead. This center is commonly called the Third eye. As the third eye opens one is able to access their intuition at a much higher level.

The sixth chakra is also provides a channel for projection of energy, more specifically thought energy. As one starts actively working with the Third Eye sensations, or impressions, begin to register with the conscious mind right in the forehead. One may speak of it as reinforcing ones forehead ;-)

When there is not sufficient energy flowing into this center one will have challenges projecting their thoughts into the world of manifestation. They will also have difficulties with their sense of intuition.
People that have an overactive Third Eye may be too mental in nature. They can focus too much of their attention within their own mind and can come off as aloof.
The color of the 6th chakra is a blend of electric blue meets deep purple.

Benefits of a Balanced 6th Chakra

  • Improved intuition
  • Ability to swiftly transition into a meditative state
  • Psychic ability
  • Thought projection into manifestation

The sixth chakra has much potential to increase the quality of our lives when properly balanced. As humanity evolves the power of the sixth center will be with us. The ability to focus within the mind and bring down impressions from above is truly inspiring.
