Not so Spontaneous Kundalini Rising

Chakras, Energy Healing 14 Comments

The Yoga Journal came out with an interesting e-newsletter the other day. The title was Kundalini Rising.

I read on and noticed the following

“Recently I’ve heard of several people experiencing spontaneous kundalini awakenings. There seems to be a good deal of mystery, hearsay, and, in some cases, even fear surrounding this phenomenon.”

First of all there is no such thing as “Spontaneous” Kundalini Rising
The Law of Karma, Cause and Effect, is still in play. If one experiences a rising of Kundalini energy it is because that one has done work towards its rising, either in this life, or in the culmination of serveral lives.

As for the mystery, well, might I suggest one study Kundalini Yoga. I feel that the glamour of the mystery is removed by a steady practice and study of Kundalini Yoga.

I am not surprised by the recent trend of more frequent risings. The energies of Aquarius are transitioning into force now, and as the Water Bearer (who is actually an Air Sign) brings the Waters of Life more and more people are attuning themselves to the energies. I suspect from a certain point of view, one could also say that the energies are attuning more and more people as well.

The article on Is it Safe to Awaken the Snake has some interesting tid bits.

Personally I cannot imagine an awakening experience that is like a bad drug trip. I am not saying it is not possible, but I would suspect a person who experiences this may not have a properly prepared nervous system. I would suggest a Kundalini Yoga practice to help regulate the nervous system.

The article goes on to state that Western Hatha practicioners experience the awakening less often than others.  Might I suggest Kundalini Yoga if you are truly interested in the awakening process.  That being said Mr. Iyengar provides excellent perspective on how to work towards Union, or rising of the Kundalini
My view is that there is little one can do to “induce an awakening” it comes from a sound practice.  A Wise Teacher helps in the process as well.
Oh and if you are really reading the signs, you may come across the note that they Mayan Calander is set to end in 2012, at such time we are due in for an Awakening. I have a feeling that those who are experiencing rising Kundalini at this time will help faciliate the Awakening transition for humanity.

Stay tunned.

First Chakra, Grounding for the Earth

1st Chakra- Root No Comments

As we celebrate Earth Day, we focus our energy towards grounding and healing the planet, as well as ourselves.

Oh yeah, another great reason to live in Madison is our attention to the environment. Earth day was founded right here by our former Governor Nelson.

In reviewing this site I noticed that I had been lacking in my focus on the root chakra. This center is of importance for it helps to ground people in the energies of the Earth Plane.

Kundalini Yoga has many exercizes one can do to faciliate energy flow through the first chakra. Standing poses in general work on grounding, and as such strengthen the first chakra.

But there are many other typical daily activities that we has humans can do in order to work our root, or base chakra.

Walking is one of the best things for the first center. Go figure so many people tell ya to get out and walk. Just think, with each step you take you become more connected to the Earth.
Being out in nature is also a means to increase the flow of energy through the base center. Camping is a great means to achieve this, but things like spending times along the lakes (Madison is great for this with the isthmus and all,) or hiking through mountains are also great for this center.
One thing I need to do soon is get into some planting. Nurturing plants from seed, placing them into the ground, and maintaining can be very theraputic. In fact one can imagine the roots of that which is planted forming the foundation of ones roots in this world. The stronger and healthier the plant the more solid ones personal foundation.
I probably should also note, that the root chakra has to do with survival. As such, when one is balanced in that center it tends to manifest as financial resources as well, since finances are a key point for survival in the present era.

With that being said, go for a walk, connect with the earth, may you be grounded and secure in your environment.

Strong mental health is important for us all to function properly. It seems we are all pulled in so many directions these days, which over time tends to tax the mental facilities we have at our disposal.

This weeks class is focusing on mental clarity. I know we recently had a class on this, but given the current energies I suspect some added mental balance would be of benefit to folks, myself included.

Again, one of the reasons I have been so excited since discovering Kundalini Yoga is because of its ability to just about perscribe kriya’s or yoga sets, based on a specific need. If we are feeling mentally spent, well then we focus our yoga, our work around generating mental clarity! Talk about a drug free approach to medicine.

Dr. I have a headache.

Take 2 Kundalini Yoga poses and call me in the morning.

Kirtan with Ragani is a Great Experience

5th Chakra- Communication, Chakras, Science of Yoga No Comments

My family and I were very fortunate to attend a Kirtan with Ragani last night at Madison’s Overture Center.  It was my first Kirtan in this lifetime, and WOW what an experience.  It was like attending a rock concert, and jacking up the group energy ten times.

Kirtan is essentially yoga chanting.  That’s right, one session is just like having a group yoga practice.

Kirtan is an excellent 5th chakra workout.  But in reality it energizes the entire chakra energy system.  This is why people enjoy going to concerts and dancing so much, it allows the charka system to flow very nicely with the music.  The science behind Kirtan is deeper than I am able to explore at this time, but I shall soon enough.  The science of sound (nada yoga) is one of the most sacred and vast subjects, for Ragani and her band to take us through this spiritual journey together is truly amazing.
It is said that in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God, or something along those lines.  And thus through sound the Universe came into manifestation.

In her bio Ragani notes that she trained under Swami Rama, a Yoga Master of the Himalayan tradition.  What’s that you say, right here in Wisconsin there is access to a Kirtan of this nature?  Yes, the heart land is, well, filled with heart and as such more and more people that ressonate with this energy are drawn to it.  This energy is also very much so why Madison Wisconsin is viewed as a Yoga Haven.

It was very special for me to be able to share this experience with my lovely future bride and my daughter.  My little one has a natural affinity for performing, and it is nice for her to have Ragani and this experience to look up to.

I am pumped to get to another Kirtan event!  I’ll be sure to post them from time to time here as a reference resource for ya.

Christ Energy Rising

4th Chakra- Heart Center 3 Comments

Happy Easter all,

As many celebrate the rising of Jesus, we are strongly reminded of the Christ’s energy.

In honor of the Lord’s resurrection, I performed a heart center kriya today.

I have always liked the rising aspect of Easter Sunday.  It is a reminder that if we stay True, and work to become more Christ like in nature, then we too can rise above our current state of being.

Might I suggest performing a 4th chakra kriya on this blessed day.  The Christ’s energy is rising among humanity.
May your Spirits Awaken
