Chakras, Energy Healing
The Yoga Journal came out with an interesting e-newsletter the other day. The title was Kundalini Rising.
I read on and noticed the following
“Recently I’ve heard of several people experiencing spontaneous kundalini awakenings. There seems to be a good deal of mystery, hearsay, and, in some cases, even fear surrounding this phenomenon.”
First of all there is no such thing as “Spontaneous” Kundalini Rising The Law of Karma, Cause and Effect, is still in play. If one experiences a rising of Kundalini energy it is because that one has done work towards its rising, either in this life, or in the culmination of serveral lives.
As for the mystery, well, might I suggest one study Kundalini Yoga. I feel that the glamour of the mystery is removed by a steady practice and study of Kundalini Yoga.
I am not surprised by the recent trend of more frequent risings. The energies of Aquarius are transitioning into force now, and as the Water Bearer (who is actually an Air Sign) brings the Waters of Life more and more people are attuning themselves to the energies. I suspect from a certain point of view, one could also say that the energies are attuning more and more people as well.
The article on Is it Safe to Awaken the Snake has some interesting tid bits.
Personally I cannot imagine an awakening experience that is like a bad drug trip. I am not saying it is not possible, but I would suspect a person who experiences this may not have a properly prepared nervous system. I would suggest a Kundalini Yoga practice to help regulate the nervous system.
The article goes on to state that Western Hatha practicioners experience the awakening less often than others. Might I suggest Kundalini Yoga if you are truly interested in the awakening process. That being said Mr. Iyengar provides excellent perspective on how to work towards Union, or rising of the Kundalini
My view is that there is little one can do to “induce an awakening” it comes from a sound practice. A Wise Teacher helps in the process as well.
Oh and if you are really reading the signs, you may come across the note that they Mayan Calander is set to end in 2012, at such time we are due in for an Awakening. I have a feeling that those who are experiencing rising Kundalini at this time will help faciliate the Awakening transition for humanity.

5th Chakra- Communication, Chakras, Science of Yoga
My family and I were very fortunate to attend a Kirtan with Ragani last night at Madison’s Overture Center. It was my first Kirtan in this lifetime, and WOW what an experience. It was like attending a rock concert, and jacking up the group energy ten times.
Kirtan is essentially yoga chanting. That’s right, one session is just like having a group yoga practice.
Kirtan is an excellent 5th chakra workout. But in reality it energizes the entire chakra energy system. This is why people enjoy going to concerts and dancing so much, it allows the charka system to flow very nicely with the music. The science behind Kirtan is deeper than I am able to explore at this time, but I shall soon enough. The science of sound (nada yoga) is one of the most sacred and vast subjects, for Ragani and her band to take us through this spiritual journey together is truly amazing.
It is said that in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God, or something along those lines. And thus through sound the Universe came into manifestation.
In her bio Ragani notes that she trained under Swami Rama, a Yoga Master of the Himalayan tradition. What’s that you say, right here in Wisconsin there is access to a Kirtan of this nature? Yes, the heart land is, well, filled with heart and as such more and more people that ressonate with this energy are drawn to it. This energy is also very much so why Madison Wisconsin is viewed as a Yoga Haven.
It was very special for me to be able to share this experience with my lovely future bride and my daughter. My little one has a natural affinity for performing, and it is nice for her to have Ragani and this experience to look up to.
I am pumped to get to another Kirtan event! I’ll be sure to post them from time to time here as a reference resource for ya.

Chakra-Neuroendocrinology, Chakras, Endocrine System
Chakra-Neuroendocrinology?? What in the world does that mean?
Well good question, I am not sure if the term was in physical exsistence until now. In my endeavor to uncover the healing properties associated with the chakra energy system, I figured I had better do some additional scientific investigation into the Human Endocrine System.Â
I have purchased the following book for an overview study.
How the Endocrine System Works by J Matthew Neal, MD, FACP, FACEÂ
Published 2002 by Blackwell Science Inc Blackwell Science Inc c/oAIDCÂ
PO Box 20
50 Winter Sports Lane Williston, VT 05495
I came across the term, Neuroendocrinology, which is a study of the endocrine system and the nervous system. This term resonnated with me because my next scientific study related to the chakras is going to be into the nervous system. Each of the 7 chakras is associated with specific centers along the central nervous system, I’ll detail them in the future, now back to the term.
So Chakra-Neuroendocrinology is the study of the chakra energy system in relation to the central nervous system and endocrine system. I think it will make for a fascinating field of study and as part of my Kundalini Yoga teacher training I’ll continue with personal exploration. Hopefully over time many many others far better versed than I in Neuroendocrinology will add a wealth of knowledge to chakra-neuroendocrinology.
For the purpose of exploration, I’ll hit on some of the high points outlined in the book referenced above, and add some of my perspective. The first item of understanding has to do with hormones.
Hormones and the Endocrine System
Hormones are vital to a human’s life force, they have 3 primary functions:
- Hormones help distribute energy by facilitating the metabolic process
- Hormones help promote an internal balance within the body
- Hormones faciliate reproduction
(Yoga, helps distribute energy and helps promote balance.)
So that’s cool, but what do hormones do to achieve this?
Turns out that hormones operate on a cellular level and primarily effect the nucleus of specific cells, encouraging creation of predetermined protiens. Hormones can be charged, or non-charged. If charged it implies that they work with receptors on the cell to effect the nucleus, rather than the non-charged ones which can penetrate the cell membrane to influence the nucleus directly. Seems to me as if they carry a specific frequency, hmm sound vibration and Mantra could play an interesting role here….
Hormone levels are maintained in the body via feedback loops that tell the body when to make more of a specific hormone and when to make less of it. Blockages within this feedback system work to inhibit the proper flow of the endocrine system. It is interesting that blockages and flow can be used when describing the processes of the endocrine system, as well as when describing the work of chakra balancing.
Distruptions in the feedback system, either too much, or not enough of a specific hormone, cause health conditions. By understanding how the chakras relate to these feedback systems, and health conditions, we can begin to understand how chakras can help prevent and potentially cure these health conditions.
Testing the Validity of Chakra-Neuroendocrinology
Scientific experimentation would be no good if there weren’t some hypothesis made.Â
High Level Hypothesis.  Chakra balancing, via Kundalini Yoga or energy healing, can faciliate improved health in the endocrine and nervous systems.
In Kundalini Yoga there are specific kriyas, or exercizes given to have an effect on specific chakras, each of these chakras relates to a specific endocrine system gland. Each of these glands is responsible for secretion of specific hormones. “stimulation or inhibition of the secretion of hormones” will provide an effective means to measure the influence of specific kriyas on the endocrine system.
So at some point we require a series of hormone tests, before and after perscribed Kundalini Yoga exercizes. We will need a control group and an experiment group. I would propose a couple experiment groups, 1 given the exercize perscriptions to do on their own over a period of time, let’s say 1 week, the other under the guidance of a Kundalini Yoga Master.
Similarly we could revisit proposed energy healing tests and measure hormone levels before an after the sessions.
Gamma cameras and Kirlian photography may also provide insight into the experiments to be conducted.
Now I don’t have off hand the resources to conduct these tests, but should someone be interested in helping faciliate them, please let me know!
So there’s the first edition of Chakra-Neuroendocrinology, stay tuned for more.

Chakras, Endocrine System
On this site I speak of the healing aspects that are associated with the chakra energetic system. How is it that this energetic system is capable of bring upon such remarkable change in a human being?
One of the primary “physical” reasons for this healing is the correlation into the human endocrine system. As I noted here, I feel additional information on the chakra endocrine system relation is in order.
Human Endocrine System
Kids Health provides easily digested explaination of the endocrine system. The primary components of the endocrine system are glands which secret hormones. The various hormones have specific functions they carry out in the physical body. These hormones are pumped through the blood stream for their specific effects to take place.
From an evolutionary perspective, I found this statement on the Kids Health site to be of much interest:
“Although many different hormones circulate throughout the bloodstream, each one affects only the cells that are genetically programmed to receive and respond to its message.”
It kind of makes ya wonder if there are dormant “target cells” that are waiting for a specific point of spiritual evolution to take place before they show expression.
The seven chakras tie in directly to this physical endocrine sytem. The major glands of the Endocrine system are listed below with their respective chakras, or energy centers.
Chakra Relation to the Endocrine System
- First Chakra (Muladhara)- Adrenal Glands
- Second Chakra (Svadhisthana)- Gonads/Ovaries
- Third Chakra (Manipura) – Spleen/Pancreas
- Fourth Chakra (Anahata) – Thymus
- Fifth Chakra (Vishuddha) – Thyroid/Parathyroid
- Sixth Chakra (Ajna) – Pituitary Gland
- Seventh Chakra (Sahasrara) – Pineal Gland
(Relationships noted in The Kundalini Yoga Experience book, a great read on the chakras.)
Over several future posts I’ll get into more specifics for each of the above. Balancing the chakras provides the keys to unlock ailments, diseases and blockages in the associated endocrine system glands and organs. Kundalini Yoga and energy healing practices such as reiki, provide excellent means of improving the flow of the endocrine system.

Chakras, Energy Healing, Krishan Singh
As every day goes by I am more an more encouraged by the online communities interest in the chakra energy system.
Erin Pavlina has provided some good quick overview chakra information as well as a useful exercise for helping to open ones chakras. Erin uses the concept of “clogged chakras” as opposed to blocked chakras. I tend to prefer the blocked term, since it communicates that they are able to be unblocked, but it is simply rhetoric.
Erin provides a useful cleansing exercise …”Sit quietly in a chair or lay down. I like to listen to meditation music but that’s not required. You could even light a candle. Knock yourself out. Locate your root chakra and imagine a red energy spinning clockwise in that location. “… visit her site for more info.
I’ve also just come across an article that details information on Chakras, Reiki and the Endocrine System. Now I’ve mentioned Reiki Healing for Chakras, in the past so this article really caught my attention.
An interesting note from the article is as follows
“In a Reiki treatment the hand positions correspond with the body’s endocrine glandular system and the seven main chakras. “
I was very pumped about this article because it has to do with the Endocrine system. I hope to create some additional content on this site over time about the Chakra system and how it ties into our Endocrine system. I will be sure to follow up.
It is my sincere hope that information about Chakras online spreads like a fire across the internet. I believe we will see a steady ramp up of exposure about the charkra energy system over the course of the next several years, to a point where it will simply become integrated into our world society as a daily part of life.

5th Chakra- Communication, Chakras, Energy Healing, Krishan Singh
I have come across an interesting perspective on chakras. Essentially this one gentleman took a class on Chakras that peaked his interest. However, he remains hesitant to believe 100%. It really got me thinking. (First off I really appreciate his perspective on this.) I would imagine that many folks are at this type of a situation within their own evolution. They have been experimenting with Yoga and other holistic paths, yet they simply have not reached the tipping point of belief.
I personally believe it will take less than 20 – 30 years for chakras to become mainstream, as yoga has. In fact I am going to make one of the purposes of this website to bring knowledge of chakras more into the mainstream among health practicioners and scientists alike.
What I do think is needed is a slightly different approach to the chakra energy system than the in your face, let’s open and start balancing your chakras. I always was fond of science. Let’s talk about matter for a moment. Scientists will agree that matter is a collection of protons, nutrons and electrons. Therefore, at one of its most scaled down states the human body (which is a form of matter) is nothing more than just energy.
Okay so our bodies are just energy. Second of all, scientists will agree that brain activity and the reactions of the nervous system have an electrical interplay, that is to say an activity initiated in the brain is passed down throughout the body via energetic transmissions.
Scientists have also taught me that our central nervous system contains the core functions, which happens to lie right down the spinal column.
Now that being said I would propose a hypothesis to scientists, that throughout our spinal column lie 7 centers of energy that the yogis call Chakras.
I would propose that the Chakra energy system is here and NOW. Not only that it has always been here and now, just perhaps in a different view. (Many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on your ones own point of view- Obi Wan Kenobi)
As energitic healing and knowledge of the chakras become proven via scientific method, we shall indeed see chakras becoming more and more mainstream. With the mainstream knowledge and appreciation of the chakras will come new forms of healing and a spiritual up liftment that will bring in the New Age.
May healing and knowledge of Self flow.
(I’ve placed this into the 5th Chakra category as it is a communication about the Chakras)

Chakras, Energy Healing, Krishan Singh
I ran across this nice little chakras test online via this forum.
Here are my results:
Percentages go from -100% to +100%
The test appears rather valid at first glance. There is also a very useful Chakras questionairre in The Kundalini Yoga Experience book. Based on my results it appears as though I need to polarize and increase flow to my crown and root chakras. I shall have to tap into the Creative force of my second chakra, to assist with the energy transference. I am a Scorpio, which tends to indicate that my life force centers around my 2nd chakra, (the water sign correlates to the fluid nature of the sacral center.)
I’ll see if I can leverage the navel center, for a power boost into the upper ones.
I think I will work on my centers the following ways over the next month or so:
- Root chakra
- Navel center
- Crown chakra
That should help facilicate the balance.
I love Kundalini Yoga because it helps prescribe work to be done based on energy flow needs.

Chakras, Yoga Glossary
A chakra is defined as a wheel, or vortex of energy. There are seven primary chakras that flow through a human’s energetic system. The chakras have been called “windows to the soul” this is because they provide humans with subtle connections into soul consciousness. It is through the seven energy centers that vitality pulses throughout our system energizing many of our physical, emotional and mental states.
By removing blockages within our chakras we are able to remove blockages within our lives. We can discover our true self, and purpose in life. And in that discovery live to our fullest expression and potential.
All definitions here are based on my understanding, learning and reading of Kundalini and other Yoga related texts, classes and websites.
I invite the Kundalini Yoga experts in the community to ellaborate on what I have presented here, and thus further the learning experience for visitors.

7th Chakra- Divine, Chakras
Seventh Chakra- Sahasrara- Crown
The 7th chakra is our connection to the divine. It has been called the thousand petal lotus by many. The seventh center is located at the top of ones head, where the soft spot is located on a baby. It is from this center that we are connected to our souls, and all souls, through the rainbow bridge.
The color of the seventh chakra is light purple, or violet. It is also closely associated with white, or divine, light from above.
Yoga, is a study of Union. It can be said that Kundalini Yoga focuses on the union and balance of the 1st chakra flowing up through the etheric system and merging in the crown chakra.
When the seventh chakra is blocked it impeeds the flow of divine light to flow through our being. It becomes challenging for us to aknowledge the divine within all forms, (Sat Nam, Namaste.) Our relationship with G.O.D is not centered. For those of you who science of prime importance, Generating Energy, Organizing Energy and Destroying/Delivering Energy.
Those with an overactive crown chakra that is not balanced across the heart center may be prone to being not of the world from time to time. Flighty, or aloof come to mind. One that is properly centered is able to operate in the world, but not be of the world.
Benefits of a balanced 7th Chakra
- Connection with ones soul
- Ability to realize soul purpose
- Meditative prowless
- Aknowledgement of the divine within all form
- Close relationship with G.O.D.
- Knowing and walking ones path
The crown chakra represents a location of great spiritual potential. But this is not the only focus of Yoga. All things must come to balance. While participating on the earth school the energies of the 7th center and the connection with the soul must merge with the rest of our being. And from this union peace may be known.

Chakras, Energy Healing, Krishan Singh
I have finally gotten around to putting some useful information about Reiki here.
I thought it appropriate to give thanks to my Reiki instructor, and Light Body Instructor as well, Esther Turner.
Reiki is a means of providing energy healing to individuals. It provides an excellent channel for working with peoples chakras in a non-invasive way. Reiki is the channel, in this lifetime, where I came to know that I needed to understand the chakra energy centers a bit more in order to feel fulfilled in life. A friend of mine used Reiki to entice the Kundalini to fly up from the base of my spine and out through my 5th chakra to clear up a blockage.
As you may read in the Reiki Healing overview, Reiki provides a practicioner the ability to channel life force energy through their hands and into another individual. The way one is actually able to perform Reiki healing is via attunement sessions/classes.
All Reiki practicioners come from Dr. Mikao Usui- (okay okay they come from God) I thought I would provide my Reiki Lineage as a tribute to the teachers that have come before me and for the benefit of all those that may come after.
- Dr. Mikao Usui
- Dr. Chujiro Hayashi
- Hawayo Takata
- Iris Ishikuro
- Arthur Robertson
- Rick & Emma Ferguson
- Margarette L. Shelton
- Kathleen Ann Milner
- Arline E. Rowden
- Esther A. Turner
- Hershel (that’s me)
Benefits of Reiki Healing
- Improved flow of energy throughout the body, chakras included!
- Increased energy level
- Pain decrease
- Works wonders on head aches and leg cramps
- No drugs required
- Non-invasive, we are talking about healing energetic vibrations here
- Get excited about magic in the world
If you are looking for a session in Wisconsin, Madison in particular, I’ve noted some resources for reiki here.
